If your dog doesn’t naturally start leaping your Doggy-jumps, the best encouragement is to
a) Leap them yourself
b) Get the kids to jump them.
If “b” is not available and "a" sounds way too optimistic we suggest the following…

Repeat several times.

Put the crossbar on the lowest setting of your uprights and repeat the exercise, with your jump command at the right moment.

If you are still having trouble convincing your Dog that this is a good idea, get them to follow you at heel and then jump over the jump yourself. This always works!

To encourage confidence and to enable you to increase the height of the jump incrementally, ask your pet to sit and wait on one side of the jump and then go to the other. Call him/her to you over the jump.

You’ll soon have an agility star on your hands and a group of then will become a whirlwind of leaping hounds!

Lots of praise when they do it!

You can now increase the height incrementally. Put the second crossbar under the first to prevent poochy running under rather than leaping over! You can other bars or cones to infill if it is a particular problem (Jack Russells will always find the shortest route)
In the event of a lack of enthusiasm we find a bribe works very well (especially with Jack Russells…)
